Why funding exists
Funding is a periodic payment between long and short holders intended to help keep a perpetual contract close to its underlying reference price. A positive rate generally means longs pay shorts; a negative rate reverses that direction.
Hyperliquid settles funding hourly. Its funding payment uses position size, the oracle price, and the applicable funding rate. Read the live market rate and venue specifications; displayed rates can change.
A simple cost example
At a hypothetical hourly rate of 0.01%, $1,000 of applicable notional corresponds to a $0.10 payment for that interval. Which side pays depends on the sign. This example assumes a fixed notional and rate; real payments change with market conditions.
Funding is separate from fees for entering or exiting. A favorable price move can still produce a smaller net result after trading costs, funding, and execution differences.
Read performance figures carefully
Check what each profit-and-loss figure includes. CBX Smart Money Bot’s verified closed-trade net PnL includes trading fees but excludes funding. It should not be treated as a complete account-level return after every cost.
